Parenting Reflections: "Go Away and Die, Mommy!": How to Respond to Mean Words from Your Highly Sensitive Child

“I hate you!” “You’re the worst!” “I don’t love you!” These words are SO hard to hear … especially when they’re coming from your child!

 

In this week's episode, I walk you through how I handled it when my daughter recently told me to “go away and die.” I share my knee-jerk reaction and also how I shifted my mindset to show up more effectively for her.

 

Here’s the thing: Our kids will say mean things sometimes as a way to push us away or to help us understand the depth of their anger. Once we understand what’s really going on in these moments, we can respond effectively, and the unkind words will diminish over time.
